Training for the 10K or the half marathon event (referred to hereinafter as 10K/half) began in January; coaching for the 1.2-mile event began mid-February. More than one third of adolescents within the United States are obese or overweight, and rates of weight problems are considerably greater among racial/ethnic minority youths and in economically deprived communities (1–three). Yet, schools are also incessantly considered as a main venue for interventions aimed at reversing the tendencies in physical inactivity and obesity , with rising proof of the effectiveness and sustainability of faculty-based interventions (9–14). Such interventions require a singular set of partnerships, and we evaluate the impact of one such program, the We Run This City (WRTC) Youth Marathon Program.
